KOLLABS

Kollabs is a collaborative project between Miami-based artist Luis Garcia Nerey (born in 1973) and Denver-based artist Anke Schofield (born in 1972) . Through their work, the artists create compositions that juxtapose undomesticated animals within domestic and urban environments, exploring the intersection of wildlife and the human experience.

For more than 15 years, the artists have created works that present an anthropomorphized wilderness, blurring the boundaries between the wild and the domestic. Through ambiguous narratives, they invite viewers to reflect on their relationships with nature, one another, and themselves, revealing the transformative power of the natural world.

Nature’s ability to engage the human consciousness is not defined by race, class, or culture. It is a universal force that does not discriminate and remains accessible to all. By observing the behaviors of animals, Kollabs reflect on human nature and examine our relationships with each other and the Earth. Their work ultimately brings the outside in, using the natural world as a mirror through which viewers can better understand themselves.

Luis Garcia Nerey lives and works in Miami, Florida, and Anke Schofield lives and works in Denver, Colorado. Together, they divide their creative time between studios in Miami and Denver.
