Richard Butler is an English artist whose work ranges from visual art to song-writing and singing. Born in Hampton Court in London, England, in 1956, Butler studied painting at the Epsom School of Art and Design (now the University for the Creative Arts Epsom). Shortly after graduating in 1977, he became a founding member, frontman, and songwriter for the British post-punk/new wave band The Psychedelic Furs. As the band rose to international prominence, Richard Butler’s musical career took center stage, drawing him away from painting through the 1980s and 1990s. He returned to visual art in the early 2000s and has since exhibited his work across Europe and United States. Richard Butler prefers to call himself “a painter who sings”. He lives and works in Connecticut, USA.
